Silent Auction:

Beginning on August 15 at 1 P.M.

Ending on August 22 at 4 P.M.

Program via Facebook LIVE:

August 22 at 1 P.M.

The program will consist of Mariah discussing her cancer story and life as a survivor, as well as conversations with a representative from each nonprofit organization that will receive proceeds

from this fundraiser. We will also read audience comments, Mariah will answer your questions,

and we will draw the winners of the money and bow raffle tickets. Please join us to celebrate

40 years from Mariah’s childhood cancer diagnosis of neuroblastoma!

Below is a link to a slide show on YouTube that shows my life in pictures, from the time that I was born, to my cancer

and the two years of treatments, to my very long and very awkward school years, to young adulthood, to Troy, and to

some of the work that I do today.  A tremendous thank you goes to my mom, who took the time to gather all of the

pictures, and my amazingly talented, special friend who wants to remain nameless, who did a superb job of putting the

entire slide show together. Please enjoy!

Mariah Forster Olson will be celebrating 40 years from her childhood
cancer diagnosis with Mariah’s Celebration Fundraiser.  This event was originally scheduled

events have been canceled indefinitely at the church.

Mariah - June 1981, during chemo
Troy and Mariah

Mariah's Story

Mariah Forster Olson was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of one on June 6, 1980, and her tumor grew out of several levels of her spine, wrapped around a portion of her heart, and occupied almost the entire right side of her chest. After undergoing multiple surgeries and several rounds of radiation treatments, Mariah was given a low rate of survival. However, she underwent two years of a very new, experimental chemotherapy protocol, which saved her life. She is very appreciative and blessed to be alive, but as a result of the location of the tumor, the treatments, and being treated in the early eighties, she has around 100 different medical conditions and late effects. As a result of her experiences, Mariah has devoted her life to fighting childhood cancer, and works with multiple nonprofits.

Event Details

On June 6, 2020, Mariah Forster Olson celebrated exactly 40 years from her childhood cancer diagnosis.

Although the date had to be changed, this event still remains a huge celebration to honor her strength!

This event (rescheduled for August 22nd, 2020) will consist of a virtual program and silent auction

Many generous businesses and individuals have donated incredible items and baskets,

which you can get a "sneak preview" of soon on our Facebook page. You can also

make a donation on the Facebook page.

From this fundraiser, the majority of proceeds will be donated to two nonprofits - the Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS) and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). The remainder of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society and C.O.U.R.A.G.E., a local childhood cancer organization.

Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS) is a nonprofit organization that advocates for children who have been diagnosed

with neuroblastoma, as well as serving as support and providing resources for their families. Almost every dollar that is donated to

NCCS goes toward neuroblastoma research and to date, this organization has donated over $2 million to research!

Furthermore, we hope to raise national awareness “to focus additional research and funding until a cure can be found.”

American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network ACS CAN is a “nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate of the

American Cancer Society” that “holds lawmakers accountable for their words and actions.”  It is the “nation’s leading cancer

advocacy organization” that works with both state and federal elected officials to support the needs of cancer patients by

enacting laws and policies to make cancer a top national priority, as well as a state priority.

C.O.U.R.A.G.E. stands for childhood cancer, overcome, understand, research, advocate, give, and educate, and it is a local childhood cancer organization in the La Crosse area.  Founded in 2016, C.O.U.R.A.G.E. was founded “out of a need to raise awareness and funds to further advance research for childhood cancer in some way…Specifically, we wanted to come together to support others traveling down this road.”

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer worldwide, and “volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

They fundraise, they help patients, they advocate for life-saving change, and they’re committed to helping us achieve our mission.”

Some of the important services and resources provides by ACS include: lifesaving, breakthrough research; free lodging near treatment, including the Hope Lodge and Hotel Partners Program; rides to treatment with the Road to Recovery program; comprehensive, trusted

research and information on the website; and a 24/7/365 life helpline.
